District 29 - Council Member - Democrat - Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill - Karen Koslowitz was elected to the New York City Council in 1991 and then again in 2009, as the representative for District 29. Council Member Karen Koslowitz has been a lifelong and tireless advocate in helping our senior citizens and working families improve their standard of living and quality of life. Some of the major pieces of legislation Koslowitz has sponsored include: •Tax relief for income-limited senior citizens and disabled individuals •Full and free access to reproductive health care facilities for women •Banning realistic-looking toy guns •Regulating street vendors serving food by requiring that they receive a letter grade like any restaurant. Karen is also responsible for: •Safeguarding our children in City Parks by bringing back recreational park managers (“parkies”) •Ensuring gender equality in products and services in dry cleaning and nail salon establishments •Protecting consumers by ensuring “Unit Pricing” in supermarkets to enable informed purchasing decisions •Critical monies directed to improving our parks, senior centers, and neighborhood street clean-up programs. •Defending our small businesses by passing “The Small Business Bill of Rights” which ensures small businesses understand their rights when dealing with City Agencies.
•Addressing Tenant Discrimination with the passage of the “The Tenant Fair Chance Act,” which protects against tenant blacklisting •Funding for much-needed school renovations, classroom upgrades and computer equipment for district schools. •Providing wheelchair accessibility in movie theatres
