Int 0069-2024 *Lincoln Restler  Prohibiting provisions in employment agreements that shorten the period in which claims and complaints of unlawful discriminatory practices, harassment or violence may be filed and in which civil actions may be commenced.IntroductionUnder Title 8 of the Administrative Code, people have one year to file a complaint with the NYC Commission on Human Rights for an unlawful discriminatory practice or act of discriminatory harassment or violence and three years to file a claim of gender-based harassment. In addition, they may commence a civil action within three years. Int 0242-2024 *Crystal Hudson  The creation of a truth, healing, and reconciliation process.IntroductionThis bill would require the Commission on Racial Equity to establish a Truth, Healing, and Reconciliation process in connection with the City’s historic involvement in slavery. The process’s objectives would be to establish historical facts about slavery in the City of New York; to protect, acknowledge, and empower affected persons and communities; and to recommend changes for government and institutions to prevent recurrence and perpetuation of harm. Louis  Black & BIPOC Care Package - Creating a task force to consider the impact of slavery and past injustices for African Americans in New York city and reparations for such injustices.IntroductionThis bill would require the Mayor to establish a temporary task force to study the impact of slavery and past injustices for African Americans in New York City and to consider solutions for such injustices, including but not limited to reparations. Such task force would consist of 9 members, including the Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office for Equity, the Commissioner on Human Rights, and 7 members appointed by the Mayor and Speaker of the Council, which include diverse New Yorkers passionate about racial equity and social justice, as well as representatives of institutions, organizations, corporations, or associations that are organized or operated primarily for historical, cultural, educational, religious, or charitable purposes and which are connected to African American heritage, history, or culture.
