Whereas, Hillel Lieberman, an American living in Israel and the son of prominent Rabbi and Mrs. Zevulun Lieberman, in an attempt to save the Torah scrolls at Joseph's Tomb was brutally beaten and murdered at the hands of the Palestinian police and a ruthless Arab mob at Shechem; and
Whereas, Despite promises made by Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat that Israel's holy sites would be protected, the Palestinian Authority allowed the desecration of several of these sacred sites, as evidenced by the destruction and burning of Joseph's Tomb following the withdrawl of Israeli guards; and
Whereas, The lynching and murder of two reserve soldiers at the hands of a Palestinian mob, with the cooperation of the Palestinian Police in Ramallah has escalated the violence and seems to be leading to outright war; and
Whereas, The people of Israel are preparing to protect themselves, their families, their children and their homes from an Arab onslaught; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of New York calls upon the President of the United States, the House and the United States Senate to immediately halt all aid to the Palestinian Authority, as a result of the ongoing violence in Israel in the wake of the riots in the West Bank and Gaza.
