No. 769 Title Resolution extending the unwavering support of the Council of the City of New York for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces serving in the current war against Iraq; and further honoring and recognizing, with deepest appreciation, the commitment, service and valor of our military personnel, and together with their families, fervently hoping for their safe return. Body By Council Members Gioia, McMahon, Avella, Baez, Brewer, Dilan, Felder, Fidler, Gentile, Jennings, Katz, Koppell, Liu, Martinez, Monserrate, Nelson, Quinn, Recchia, Jr., Reyna, Sanders, Jr., Serrano, Stewart, Vann, Weprin, Provenzano, Gennaro, Moskowitz, Gallagher and Lanza Whereas, On March 19, 2003, the United States commenced military action against Iraq; and Whereas, More than 250,000 American troops have thus far been called to duty in the Persian Gulf region, demonstrating exceptional valor, courage and honor; and Whereas, These brave volunteers, many of whom also are New York City residents, are our children, parents, spouses, partners, neighbors and friends; and Whereas, These troops join a rich, distinguished and honorable history of military service by the many veterans of war who have so valiantly served this nation in conflicts past; and Whereas, We already have suffered casualties among our military personnel, and we mourn their loss and grieve together with their families; and Whereas, As the locally elected voice of the people, the Council supports our City's residents in this time of crisis; now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York extends its unwavering support for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces serving in the current war against Iraq; and be it further Resolved, That it is with deepest appreciation that the Council of the City of New York honors and recognizes the commitment, service and valor of our military personnel, and together with their families, fervently hopes for their safe return.
