Resolution calling upon the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York to conduct an oversight hearing in relation to the delivery of food services to City agencies.

Whereas, According to recent reports major vendors who supply food to City agencies and schools face possible indictments by the United States Justice Department for alleged bid-rigging; and
Whereas, The City spends approximately $65 million dollars worth of food each year and schools spend approximately $267 million dollars; and
Whereas, Nearly two dozen vendors who provide food to City shelters, hospitals, prisons and schools are alleged to have inflated thousands of bids in order to increase prices; and
Whereas, Pursuant to procurement guidelines, indicted vendors would be barred from doing business with the City; and
Whereas, If suspected vendors are indicted by the Justice Department the City will have to find immediate replacements; and
Whereas, The City may be potentially facing a food drought for agencies and schools unless a contingency plan is placed into immediate effect; now, therefore be it
Resolved, that the appropriate committee of the Council of the City of New York conduct an oversight hearing in relation to the delivery of food services to City agencies.
