A Local Law to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to providing information on wheelchair repair providers
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Chapter 8 of title 23 of the administrative code of the city of New York is amended by adding a new section 23-807 to read as follows:
§ 23-807 List of wheelchair repair providers. a. Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following terms have the following meanings:
Office. The term “office” means the office established under executive order number 73 for the year 2021 or any successor office or agency that carries out the same or substantially similar functions.
Wheelchair repair provider. The term “wheelchair repair provider” means a person that repairs a wheelchair in return for payment or free of charge.
b. The office shall post on its website a list of wheelchair repair providers that operate in the city. The office may compile such list based on information from other agencies about persons in the city that provide services or sell or lease products for persons with disabilities. The office shall update such list no less than once each year. Where practicable, such list shall include the following information for each wheelchair repair provider:
1. Name;
2. Address;
3. Email address;
4. Phone number;
5. Website domain name;
6. Hours of operation;
7. Insurance providers accepted, if any; and
8. Forms of payment accepted.
c. The department of health and mental hygiene shall post on its website a link to the list the office creates pursuant to subdivision b.
d. The 311 customer service center shall provide, in response to a request from the public for information regarding how to locate wheelchair repair providers, a link to the list the office posts pursuant to subdivision b.
§ 2. This local law takes effect 180 days after it becomes law.
