Resolution congratulating and commending the City University of New York's Chancellor Dr. Matthew Goldstein, President Edison O. Jackson of Medgar Evers College, and President Gerald W. Lynch of John Jay College of Criminal Justice and their respective faculties, staffs, student bodies, and alumni on their untiring and successful efforts to expand and modernize their campus facilities in order to promote access and success for future generations of New Yorkers.

Whereas, The City University of New York ("CUNY") has undertaken two vitally important campus projects, the Medgar Evers College Academic Building I and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Phase II project, as both colleges have recently received approval from the State to finance their campus expansions; and
Whereas, In the case of the Medgar Evers College project, the New York City Council and its Committee on Higher Education served as catalysts for obtaining matching City and State capital funding support by providing the initial capital dollars in the New York City budget; and
Whereas, In the case of the John Jay College project, members of the Council worked closely with the CUNY administration and leadership in advocating for the expansion of the campus; and
Whereas, Medgar Evers College, an institution dedicated to the memory of the prominent civil rights activist Medgar Wiley Evers, has served the community of central Brooklyn with exemplary distinction and purpose; and
Whereas, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a nationally recognized educational leader in the fields of criminal justice and public safety, plays an indispensable role in providing a highly qualified and diverse public safety workforce in New York City; and
Whereas, Both institutions contribute enormously to the rich cultural and economic fabric of New York City, serving many tens of thousands of students, families and members of the community; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York and the members of the Committee on Higher Education congratulate and commend the City University of New York's Chancellor Dr. Matthew Goldstein, President Edison O. Jackson of Medgar Evers College, and President Gerald W. Lynch of John Jay College of Criminal Justice and their respective faculties, staffs, student bodies, and alumni on their untiring and successful efforts to expand and modernize their campus facilities in order to promote access and success for future generations of New Yorkers.
