RESOLUTION NO. 463

 

Resolution affirming the designation by the Landmarks Preservation Commission of the Coney Island (Riegelmann) Boardwalk Scenic Landmark,  extending from West 37th Street in Coney Island to Brighton 15th Street in Brighton Beach, Borough of Brooklyn, Designation List No. 506, LP-2583 (L.U. No. 154; 20185414 HIK; N 180454 HIK).

                     WHEREAS, the Landmarks Preservation Commission filed with the Council on May 24, 2018 a copy of its designation report dated May 15, 2018 (the "Designation Report"), designating pursuant to Section 3020 of the New York City Charter and Chapter 3 of Title 25 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, as a Scenic Landmark,  the Coney Island (Riegelmann) Boardwalk, Borough of Brooklyn, extending from West 37th Street in Coney Island to Brighton 15th Street in Brighton Beach, consisting of the 2.7 mile long public beachfront boardwalk, its structure and walkway, comfort stations, railings, benches, lighting fixtures, steps, Steeplechase Pier, and the beach beneath the boardwalk extending approximately 100 feet from the north (land side) edge of the boardwalk into the beach (ocean side), (the “Designation”);

 

WHEREAS, the Designation is subject to review by the Council pursuant to Section 3020 of the New York City Charter;

 

WHEREAS, the New York City Planning Commission submitted to the Council on
June 25, 2018, its report on the Designation dated June 25, 2018 (the "City Planning Commission Report");

 

WHEREAS, upon due notice, the Council held a public hearing on the Designation on July 17, 2018; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council has considered the land use implications and other policy issues relating to the Designation;

 

RESOLVED:

 

Pursuant to Section 3020 of the New York City Charter, and on the basis of the information and materials contained in the Designation Report and the City Planning Commission Report, the Council affirms the Designation.
